Understanding Reasonable Accommodations - The Rights and Responsibilities of Individuals with Disabilities and Housing Providers Under the Virginia Fair Housing Law
The Fair Housing Act and the Virginia Fair Housing Law demand that housing and shelter providers (both public and privately funded), make individual exceptions to rules, policies, services and practices, that when applied, have a discriminatory effect on individuals with disabilities. Every year complaints based on Disability have risen. In 2014, they were 53.5% nationwide and 47% in the Commonwealth of Virginia. For this reason the Virginia Fair Housing Office Outreach is offering housing providers, organizations, agencies, and the general public this full day workshop. Participants will become familiar with the following documents: The Joint Statement on Reasonable Accommodations, The Joint Statement on Assistance Animals, The Memo on Restricted Breeds.
