Get You Fish On at the Audubon
In conjunction with FISH OUTTA WATER, the Arroyo Arts Collective (AAC) will host a nature talk and puppet making workshop on May 17th, from 5pm - 8pm at the Audubon Center at Debs Park. Friends of the LA River (FOLAR) will discuss the history and current state of our surrounding water ways and artist Beth Elliot will help us create "Fish" headpiece pupets and plastic bottle "Fish" out of recycled materials.
FISH OUTTA WATER, a gleefully unstructured parade to kick off the annual Lummis Day Music Festival on June 6th, will celebrate the dazzling creativity of Northeast L.A. and honor the Arroyo Seco, a tributary of the Los Angeles River, which was once, and could be again, a vibrant waterway.
Artist Beth Elliot has been working with recycled materials for years and was artist in residence at San Pedro High School when they created "San Pedro Tsunami, Wave of Awareness", an installation made entirely of plastic water bottles and bags.
FOLAR is a non-profit organization founded in 1986, whose mission is to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat through inclusive planning, education and wise stewardship.
FISH OUTTA WATER is made possible in part through the generous support of the Department of Cultural Affairs, City of Los Angeles.
