Join us May 15, 2016 as we declare our right to live without fear of toxins from the fossil fuel industry. From the toxic waste created by the extreme extraction of tar sands destroying Indigenous communities in Canada, to toxins created by the BP Whiting refinery producing sacrifice communities in the Greater Chicago area, to the resultant catastrophic effect on our climate, the urgent need for a just transition away from fossil fuels to a 100% renewable energy economy is abundantly clear.

On Sunday, May 15, 2016 we are departing from Rockford RMTD East Side Transfer Center, 725 Lyford Rd, Rockford, IL (7:00 AM), with a stop at the Church of the Brethren General Offices, 1451 Dundee Ave. Elgin, IL. (8:45 AM) We will arrive at the Whiting Lakefront Park near the BP Whiting Refinery and near the 2014 oil spill into the waters of Lake Michigan at (10:30 AM). Return departure time from Whiting Lakefront Park in Whiting, IN, will be about 4:30 pm.

A separate but simultaneous direct action is available to those willing to risk arrest. Riders wishing to participate may need to make alternate return trip arrangements. Kayakers can join the Kayacktivists in the water for the protest. Contact us if you wish to participate in either of these actions.
