Two separate workshops--take one or both! The first--From Ambition to Curiosity--is open to all levels. The second--Flying, Rolling & Falling--is Intermediate/Advanced. Taught by Jeremie Chetrit (see bio below).
From Ambition to Curiosity: This workshop, open to all levels, will explore some of the fundamentals of Contact Improvisation. We'll learn how to create a rich conversation by giving and taking weight with a partner, harnessing momentum, gravity and the body's reflexes. We'll learn how to step into the flow of an effortless, pleasure-filled dance. We'll slow down enough to listen deeply. Well learn safety principles so that we can be confident taking risks, when we want to. Well sweat a little, as we play fast-paced movement games and learn to take flight. And if time allows and the group is interested, we may practice performative scores where we can witness each others expression in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Come with an open mind, and clothing you're comfortable rolling around in!
Flying, Rolling & Falling: An intermediate/advanced Contact Improvisation workshop for movers wishing to develop their skills in partner (and some solo) work. We'll learn: - how to lift and take flight safely, fluidly and easefully, using our structure and momentum rather than effort. (Several lifts on the program!) - how to roll in and out of the ground with grace, efficiency, and care for our jointsboth alone and with a partner. - how to harness the kinetic potential of the fall to move in any directioneven up! - how to flow while in the air, in collaboration with our partner(s)
