MARGARET OF ANJOU
MARGARET OF ANJOU is a high-stakes drama of betrayal, intrigue and medieval power politics  eerily relevant to the present moment in American politics.

The world premiere production of MARGARET OF ANJOU runs August 25- September 11, 2016 at Live Oak Theatre in Berkeleys gourmet ghetto neighborhood.  For this, their fourth show, Those Women Productions joins forces with British playwright Lauren Jansen-Parkes and their favorite Dead White Guy, William Shakespeare, to tell the hidden story of Margaret of Anjou who ruled England during the Wars of the Roses and was Commander-in-Chief for the House of Lancaster (inspiration for the Lannisters in George R. R. Martins The Game of Thrones).  Combining original material with text adapted from Shakespeares Henry VI plays and Richard III, Jansen-Parkes has wrought a new Shakespearean history play that brings Margaret to the center of the stage.

Playwright Lauren Jansen-Parkes first met Margaret while studying for her Masters in Staging Shakespeare at Exeter University, where she also met director Libby Vega. Lauren is now a doctoral student at Warwick University, working with Birmingham Repertory Theatre researching community engagement with regional theatres in the UK. She also works as a community arts facilitator and dramaturg, specializing in Shakespeare, and spirituality and the arts.

Director Libby Vega is a graduate of Exeter University and the Staging Shakespeare Masters program; she is the co-founder of Those Women Productions and its Producing Artistic Director. Previous directing work includes Just Deserts for Those Women as well as readings and performances for the San Francisco Olympians Festival, Cal Shakes Summer Conservatories, the Playwrights Center of San Francisco, and the Bay Area Playwrights Foundation.

Named the Best Year-Old Theater Company of 2015 by the East Bay Express, Those Women Productions stages hidden truths of gender and power. It was founded on International Women's Day, 2014 by playwright Carol Lashof and theatre director Libby Vega. Libby and Carol met at the Berkeley Public Library and were immediately drawn together by their shared loves of classic literature and of shaking up the patriarchy.
