Ghana National Music Festival Fundraiser
The Ghana National Music Festival was created to fulfill two major needs: the promotion of artistic development in Ghana's youth and the cultivation of international relations between American and Ghanaian musicians. The festival, which is free to all accepted students, will take place from July 24-31 2016 at the University of Ghana's Department of Music. Educators from the University of Louisville's School of Music will partner with musicians of the afore mentioned university and with musicians of the Ghana National Symphony Orchestra to provide a rare opportunity for young Ghanaian students to be immersed in classical music pedagogy for a week of intense performance and academic training.
This event seeks to raise funds to help with expenses such as group travel for students, hiring Ghanaian faculty, and supplying lunch for students for the week. The event will include a dinner catering a traditional West African meal, performances and lectures by the American guest artists, special messages from the directors of Ghanas National Symphony Orchestra and the University of Ghanas Department of Music, and an open Q&A session between fundraiser attendees and festival artists. Thanks to the sponsorship of the Louisville Guitar Society, all donations are tax deductible.
American guest artists include: Dr. Stephen Mattingly Samantha Holman Bethany Cothern Ciyadh Wells Jordan Taylor
Thanks to the University of Louisville School of Music and Roberson Fund for African Studies, all of the 2016 American guests are faculty and graduate degree holders from UofL's Music School. On behalf of the GNMF I hope you will join us for an evening of food, music, and exploration of culture.
Best Wishes, Jordan Taylor
