Bellows Falls
Bellows Falls is a site-specific performance work created by choreographer Leah Stein, artistic director of Leah Stein Dance Company (LSDC), with musician Diane Monroe and dancer Jungwoong Kim. This intimate work, created for the The Iron Factory, an old industrial space that now functions as a dance studio in Kensington, is an homage to Leah's father, Dale Stein, who died last year.
The piece rides the lines between narrative and abstraction, elegy and the present moment, and touches on traces that are left - the memories that remain in a post-industrial space or in the viscera of a mourning body. Stein remarks, "I am honoring my father, how he lives in me, and the role of his influence in my own artistic journey. Among his passions were steam locomotives, Gustav Mahler and gravel." Through Stein's transparent exploration of this personal connection, she ingeniously integrates light, sound, history, environment, and her own body to create a delicately woven performance that is not to be missed.
