How much flavor does an oak barrel actually have on the final product? That's the question the folks at Mikkeller were trying to answer when they put together their French Oak series. They took their base beer (categorized as a barleywine but, at 19.3%, it's more like a barley cognac) and aged it in barrels made from three different oak varieties. Then, they gave one barrel of each oak variety a light char and the other barrel a medium char offering six subtle variations on the same beer.

In this limited session (12 seats only), you will sample each of these six oak-aged beers. And when you're done, you'll have the opportunity to purchase one of the six beers to take home. This series was a limited run brewed in 2013, so all six varieties are retired and no longer in production. Here's your chance to try them all and go home with one under your arm.
