Boy Scout Troop 135 Annual BBQ
On May 7, 2016, Boy Scout Troop 135 will host our First Annual BBQ at Church of the Roses, with the help of Keith's BBQ Beast.
Two seating options, and four choices of entrée is sure to please the entire family!
Troop 135 utilizes wilderness and nature to drive home scouting principles and life experiences, creating confident and skilled young men who enjoy the outdoor world around them. In our Boy-Led meetings we focus on developing leadership, scout skills and achievement leading towards the Eagle rank, and most of all, having fun. We pride ourselves on our special relationship with Yosemite National Park, which we use for our long summer backpacks (up to 140 miles) and where we have conducted a service project for nearly 20 years. Yosemite and the park service has acknowledged our contribution by awarding us the YNP Youth Volunteer of the Year award in 2012 and the Hartzog Regional Volunteer of the Year award for 2013. We also participate in service activity in our local community starting with our sponsor church and beyond.
Keith's BBQ Beast is a mobile barbecue built on a 1939 Dodge fire engine chassis. The fire engine was a former US Forestry Service water tender that was retired in the 1960s and sold to a private party. Chef-by-hobby Keith Givens found the fire engine rusting away under a tree, unused and unmoved in 20 years. Using his time and energy, he rebuilt the engine into Keith's BBQ Beast.
