Magical Dance
Enjoy a star studded evening with Portlands best and brightest young musicians, collected together in our Orpheus Academy! The Orpheus Academy Orchestra first tackles Stravinskys Concerto in D. One of his last tonal works, Stravinskys Concerto in D is paradoxically one of Stravinskys brightest and most accessible works and one of his least well-known, a short, lyrical and jazzy treat for the Stravinsky aficionado. Nancy Ambrose King, one of the foremost oboists of our day, joins the academy orchestra to perform Mozart's Oboe Concerto, one of the most important oboe concertos ever written and composed when the genius was just 21. They then perform Stravinskys Pulcinella Suite, a ballet composed by Stravinsky at his producers request re-working older music written by at least six different composers based on the vicious commedia dell-arte character, Punch. The Zora Quartet, the US's premier string quartet, joins the Orpheus Academy Orchestra in this festival capper!
