Coppin State University Dance Company Spring Concert 2016
CSU Dance Company presents The Arts and Social Responsibility
CSU Dance Company, a dance ensemble made up of Coppin State University dance majors and minors, will present its last performance of the season. Working with the theme of The Arts and Social Responsibility, the concert features works that celebrate the importance of expressive movement to not only entertain, but to encourage social and political change. The company will perform dance works by guest artist Valerie Branch, as well as faculty members Vanessa Jackson, Deidre Dawkins, and Alice Howes. Advanced dance majors will also present choreography in the concert.
Professor Vanessa Jackson's piece infuses Stevie Wonder's 1970s social political music with current popular culture to exemplify unchanging conditions for people of color living in urban America. Games, choreographed by Professor Howes, is a look at what happens when the games children play become ominous as they grow older and the competition escalates.
