Dance Shelter 2016
"a haven for new directions and ongoing experiments" Molzahn, SeeChicagoDance.com

Dance Shelter 2016 unveils the Chicago premiere of Karla Beltchenko's "The Collectors", an investigation combining movement and film, with live score by an of-the-moment music artist (soon to be announced). Premiered in London 2015, "The Collectors" plays out on 3 screens filling the noble Hamlin Park space; ordinary movement is magnified, transposed, juxtaposed, seen, and examined--becoming a dance, a choreography.  Are we all in our own Private Idaho?

Award-winning artist Ayako Kato performs "So and so . . ." with dancers Corrine Imberski, Jessica Cornish, and noted Chicago avant-jazz musicians Jason Roebke/double bass (Thursday); Josh Berman/cornet (Friday).  "So and so . . . " is an experimental kinesonic ensemble that reveals intangible elements through transformative form.

Rachel Bunting/The Humans continue their exploration of "A Series of Dad Dreams" a sensory xtravaganza that "packs a visual punch. . . (and) creates one haunting image after another" (Chicago Tribune). In this version, look for the reappearance of the "deer disco", as well as other sights and movement of awe and wonder.  Joining Bunting are dancers:  Precious Jennings, Isabelle Collazo, Helen Lee, Bryan Hinkle, and more.

Helen Lee partners with Chicago video/photo artist Carl Wiedemann on a spanking new work replete with image:  empty bodies in a trunk, doors, stairs, and a rocking horse lullaby.  Come see how all of this plays out in the beautiful Hamlin space.

Linden Dream presents "Starless" a new work by Lyndsae Rinio addressing the experience of loss; feauturing Chicago movers/shakers Nadine Lollino, Rose Bouboushian, and more.

"interview" is a new solo by talented, gamine of a dancemaker, Karen Yatsko that uses the template of a job interview to explore the process of making a dance.  Where do you see yourself in five years?
