Inner/Outer: Butoh & The Space Between
In this intensive workshop we will cultivate a state of mind from which we can find movement that lies beyond the culturally prescribed binaries of human existence. With inspiration from butoh, physical theatre, guided improvisation, somatics, and transformative performance practice we will move beyond the duality of "inner" and "outer" as we endeavor to find our inspiration for movement in "the space between." Beyond all of the social dichotomies of the "self" there lies a true human expression. Let's find that truth and let it move us.
This is a highly physical movement-based workshop that is suitable for movers of all levels from the seasoned performer to the simply curious. As such, this class is a safe space to explore one's own "truth." We will support one another in cultivating a container of space in which we are free to push to the limits of our physical and emotional expression. The class may involve some touch-based exercises.
About Brandon:
Brandon Fisette is a butoh dancer, performance artist, actor, teacher, and musician. Brandon is a company member of The Living Theatre in New York City, a core dancer with Bay Area based dance company, Bad Unkl Sista, and a music maker under the name Cat Child. They (pronouns are they/them) also create their own butoh inspired body-based performance work which has been showcased in New York at Dixon Place, Panoply Performance Laboratory, and more as well as throughout the country. In addition to performance, Brandon also teaches workshops in butoh and transformational performance practices.

Sunday, May 15th 11:00am - 6:30pm
Participation in both days of the workshop is strongly encouraged to develop connectivity. Single-day participants are also welcome.
