The Social Sessions: Chapter 1
The Social Sessions is a community arts showcase that aims to bring awareness to specific social-economic issues facing the city of Philadelphia. Through a mixed bill program, topics such as homelessness, abandonment and abuse are explored through performance art.
In January 2016 producer, Caroline OBrien presented the SOLOnely series, which explored themes of loneliness within homeless and non-homeless alike. Pulling inspiration from this topic our first session will partner with Habitat for Humanity to further navigate the definition of home. Through a curated evening of performances, Chapter I will ask: What does the word home look like?Is it a physical space? A feeling? Does it rely on others? How does it differ from one person to the next?Is home necessary for human survival?
Ticket sales from the evening will benefit Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia, whose mission is to transform lives and our city by building and repairing homes in partnership with families in need, and uniting all Philadelphians around the cause of affordable housing.
