Etienne Charles & Creole Soul at the Bellevue Jazz & Blues Festival
Trinidadian born Trumpeter/Percussionist Etienne Charles brings his fiery brand of calypso, reggae and other Afro-Caribbean musics into a modern jazz conception. Having already recorded three impressive and well-received albums, his new album, San Jose Suite, a ten-part suite explores the histories, cultures and musical traditions of three Western settlements that share a name. This project was commissioned through a Chamber Music America New Jazz Works Grant funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. He is also the Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies at Michigan State University.
