Building on the success of the inaugural event for this series, the First Sunday Cultural Event Series in Napa welcomes Fandangueros.
Fandangueros performs an instrumental blend of traditional music and original compositions that traverses the musical connections between Spain, Latin America and the Philippines.
The quartet features guitarist and composer, Florante Aguilar; Chus Alonso on flute and laúd (Spanish lute); Bay Area native, Sage Baggott on percussion; and Greg Kehret on Bass.
Florante, originally from the Philippines, studied music at the University of the Philippines, the Manhattan School of Music, and the San Francisco Conservatory. Florante is featured in the award winning film, Harana, being broadcast in May on PBS. In the film, Florante travels to the Philippines to discover some of the last surviving practitioners of harana, a traditional form of musical courtship in the Philippines.
Chus grew up in Spain and studied flute and percussion at the conservatory in Madrid, with additional music studies in Barcelona and at the Berlin Conservatory.
Sage was raised in Berkeley and is deeply immersed in the Afro-Cuban and Flamenco music scenes in the Bay Area.
Greg graduated from the San Francisco State University School of Music and performs in a wide range of genres.
