This lunch time fundraiser will launch support for two vital ICS initiatives we will embark upon in 2016-17: our Blended Learning Program through the LMU iDEAL Institute and our Transitional Kindergarten (TK). Join the festivities where we will honor our founding ICS Board Chair, Paul Martin. Heartwarming entertainment will be provided by our talented ICS students.
BLENDED LEARNING Through the LMU iDEAL Institute (Innovation in Digital Education and Leadership)
This Blended Learning program is a proven model of personalized instruction that is supported by successful implementations at other school sites. Students learn at their own pace, at their own level, through small group instruction, individual and collaborative practice and using adaptive and assignable software.
An integrated learning experience that infuses blended learning technology into the curriculum is important in helping students become technology-literate and at the same time creates a unique individualized experience. Technology-driven instruction will also ensure that students will be comfortable with other innovative uses of technology throughout their educational career. Through this program the role of the teacher will shift to providing more personalized attention for each student. Teachers also have access to immediate data on student learning helping them to differentiate the learning in order to maximize the student success, meeting each student where s/he is at academically.
Through a partnership with Loyola Marymount University, Specialty Family Foundation, Hilton Foundation, and the Shea Foundation, ICS is bringing a Blended Learning Program to all of our students, grades K-8. This program will advance students learning, make them more technologically savvy and provide them with individualized lessons to improve their overall success.
TRANSITIONAL KINDERGARTEN (TK)
ICS will expand its early childhood education in 2016-17 by opening a TK class for 4-year olds, allowing us tomeet the need for early childhood education in the Westlake and DTLA neighborhoods. The National Education Association, and various other studies, report that children who attend preschool benefit from greater cognitive development, higher grades, increased college graduation rates and more. The addition of a new TK class to our Preschool program will provide educational opportunities to even more children in our community.
These two advanced programs will strengthen our childrens paths to a brighter future. We feel a moral and ethical obligation to bring these programs to our students and the community. Fore more information visit http://www.ics-la.org/event/cdmfe/.
