THE SHOW PONIES and T SISTERS
You could call the Show Ponies a folk outfit, but you might be wrong. Then again, you might be right. Fusing a plethora of musical and literary influences, the Show Ponies have created for themselves a sound. Its not altogether definable, but they like it that way, says Jason Harris, the groups guitarist and producer, In the past Ive found that once youve put yourself in a box, its really difficult to get the hell out.
This year alone, the Los Angeles-based quintet have opened for the likes of Billboard chart mainstays Rascal Flatts and Easton Corbin; Texas country legend Robert Earl Keen and darlings of the folk music blogosphere, Elephant Revival. Add to that a rigorous touring schedule and the upcoming release of their third record, and a wildly dedicated, evangelical fan base, and you might conclude that the Show Ponies are having a pretty good time, to say the least.
A completely crowd-funded band, the Show Ponies just recently finished a crowd-funding campaign in which their fans helped them raise over double their initial goal, to the tune of $21,000. The resulting upcoming release, a five song EP entitled, Run For Your Life, which features two collaborations with virtuosic banjoist and world-class musician, Noam Pikelny, was released in October of 2014.
The T Sisters are a vocally driven contemporary folk band hailing from Oakland, California. The three sisters inventive songwriting is supported by their own acoustic instrumentation as well as by upright bassist Steve Height and mandolinist/guitar player Andrew Allen Fahlander. When performing their lively set of originals and coversoccasionally in arresting a cappellathey captivate audiences with close harmonies, creative arrangements, and sassy performance style. Touching on elements of folk, Americana, gospel, R&B, bluegrass and soul, the T Sisters weave evocative stories with a sound that is at once modern and timeless.
