What is this body? We investigate different conceptions of the body and how butoh training techniques push, pull and expand the very act of manifesting embodiment. In this workshop, we co-create a research-based playful environment through an attitude of questioning, experimentation, and investigation. We gather together, seeking to understand what is this realm of the body.

There is a logic/sensibility to butoh composition that exists beyond an approach and treatment of the body. This compositional sense is particular, yet strategies can be extracted and applied to numerous forms. This workshops presents densely-packed nuggets of nutrient-rich information drawn from Nicole's extensive research and deep investigation into butoh composition packed into a short amount of time. The aim is to flood your system with different ways of thinking, other perspectives and sensibilities of useful, applicable strategies toward generating, shaping, and further developing butoh-informed performance compositions.

Open to all. No experience necessary.
No prior experience in butoh, dance, or performing-arts necessary. Appropriate for curious people who wish to explore and express through their bodies in both free-form and structured creative exercises. Also suitable for performers and those wishing to thoroughly challenge themselves. Enriching for those new and experienced in butoh.

Nicole LeGette (blushing poppy) is recognized as the Midwests foremost butoh artistas advocate and resource, performer, teacher, curator, and producer. LeGettes performancein ensemble (as blushing poppy Dance Club), collaboration, and solohas been presented across the US, Mexico, Japan, and Indonesia. An essential part of Nicoles public engagement incorporates butohs multi-sensory, image-based, embodied movement practice, often with the elderly and people with impairment. International, cross-cultural opportunities for exchange and collaboration also take priority. Established in 2003, blushing poppy productions hosts regional, national, and international butoh artists through innovative events and partnerships.
