Francisco Villa & Pati Carmona Trova Direct from Chile
Francisco Villa and Pati Carmona are in the Bay Area on their first visit to the United States. Francisco and Pati have performed throughout Chile, Latin America, Europe and Canada for more than 25 years sharing their soulful artivism and their beautifully crafted music participating in major Latin American and European Festivals with Silvio Rodriguez, Daniel Viglietti and Patricio Manns, among many other notable trovadores.
One of the most renowned singer-songwriters or trovadores of Chile, Francisco Villa is an ongoing presence in the public sphere as a cultural worker with deep ties to the universities and the student movement since 1985. He has dedicated his career to the defense of human rights, working with social justice organizations, progressive political groups and alternative media sources.
Francisco's musical creation is highly poetic with lyrics akin to the great trovadores of the 20th century, describing the unyielding spirit of the people and our hope and work for a better future. His guitar is almost baroque in its complexity, spiced by the rhythms and syncopation often found in Afro-Latin American music. The weaving of Francisco's voice and guitar, highlighted by the sweet alto tones of his wife and musical partner Pati Carmona create a uniquely Chilean contemporary trova. Together they have recorded more than 10 CDs.
In 2015, Francisco celebrated 30 years of work as a trovador at the Sala Cine Arte Normandie (an 800 person auditorium in Santiago, Chile) to a sold out house.
Patricia (Pati) Carmona is a talented singer, psychologist and licensed musical therapist who has worked with Francisco since 1991. Over the years Patricia has developed her own musical projects specializing in bossa nova and traditional Latin American songs.

Francisco and Pati are in the United States because of a special invitation made by The Rafael ManrĂquez Kolectiv to join us for the 2nd Annual Festival in Rafael's honor to be held on April 2nd, 2016 at the Freight & Salvage in Berkeley.  Both were beloved friends and colleagues of Rafael in Chile and shared the stage with him on many occasions. The Rafita Kolectiv is  deeply thankful to the community who made this visit possible.
