The remarkable story of a Jewish partnership with African-American communities, Rosenwald celebrates the greatest philanthropist youve never heard of.  A high school dropout who rose to become President of Sears & Roebuck, he devoted much of his life and fortune to philanthropy. At the turn of the 19th century, Rosenwald took a leadership role in trying to meet the needs of Jewish immigrants. He was later motivated by the work of Booker T. Washington, and his belief that American Blacks shared with Jews a history of persecution, to fund over 5,300 schools in the Jim Crow South. As a result, the American cultural landscape was profoundly enrichedrecipients of Rosenwald scholarships included Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin, Marian Anderson, Ralph Ellison, and Jacob Lawrence.  Extraordinarily vivid archives mixed with contemporary images of the work of some school alumni, and interviews with other graduates, makes an indelible impression of the impact one individual can have.
