MJFF - The Farewell Party 3-15 Nickelodeon
TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR SALE AT 3:30 AT THE NICKELODEON
Comedy-Drama / Dir: Tal Granit, Sharon Maymon / 2014 Israel / Hebrew w/English subtitles / 90 min
This unique, compassionate and often quite funny film tells the story of a group of friends at a Jerusalem retirement home aiding a terminally ill friend who wants to end his life. Rumors begin: others are suffering and want relief as well. Will Levana change her own mind as the symptoms of her Alzheimers disease begin to worsen? A retired veterinarian and former graft-prone police officer work with an amateur inventor to design a means and a method. While the subject matter is clearly controversial (assisted suicide and the right to die) and the film is not without moments of sharp wit, it also conveys a sense of the energy of the elderly characters (including sexual) and highlights the importance of love, friendship, and family, and the yearning for self-determination in death as well as life.
