The Apocalyptic Sublime
American wind quintet THE CITY OF TOMORROW performs a concert consisting exclusively of music written for them, "The Apocalyptic Sublime" at Spectrum NYC.
"The Apocalyptic Sublime" serves as an emotional reckoning of the cataclysmic changes currently on humanity's doorstep. From technological failure and event horizon to climate changes and natural disasters that leave us powerless, "The Apocalyptic Sublime" is a prayer, a scream, and a gentle witnessing shared between us all. The program consists exclusively of music written for the City of Tomorrow and features new commissions from Hannah Lash and John Aylward, as well as a work by one of the ensemble's own members, Stuart Breczinski.
The commission and performance of "Leander and Hero," by Hannah Lash is made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program, with generous funding provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and the Chamber Music America Endowment Fund.
About the City of Tomorrow: The only woodwind quintet to win a gold medal at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in over ten years, THE CITY OF TOMORROW advocates for the quality and expansion of wind quintet repertoire and performance. The group released their first album, Nature, in May of 2015, the first of a double album recording project.
