Trivøya is a very small, very cold island located off the northern coast of Norway. Trivøya is so cold that bodies buried in the local cemetery do not decompose. When the King of Norway makes dying there illegal, the Trivøyans decide to secede. The Norwegian King counters with an offer: if the Trivøyans can form their own curling team and defeat the world champion Norwegians at the upcoming winter Olympic games, he will recognize the island's sovereignty and they will be free to die wherever they like. Our story follows Torbjørn Bjørnsen, a retired Trivøyan curling superstar. He is dragged away from his quiet life as an ice sculptor and forced to wrestle with the question of whether to rekindle the flame that was his love of the sport, serving his country when the stakes have never been higher, or to stay home and care for his wife and daughter, who are both very sick and will probably be dead soon. Trivøya Gold is a story of honor, sacrifice, pride, family, identity, nationalism, and curling.
