South Sound Women's Boating Seminar
Registration is $35 for the whole day, and includes lunch and morning coffee plus goodies.
Welcome to the Seventh South Sound Womens Boating Seminar. This year's seminar, Back to Basics, will be held Saturday, May 21st at the Olympia Yacht Club clubhouse, 201 Simmons St NW., Olympia, WA 98501, in downtown Olympia. The South Sound Womens Boating Seminar is an opportunity for both power boaters and sailors to learn essential skills from other experienced women boaters. This years theme offers presentations and hands on demonstrations so the novice can build a solid foundation while more experienced boaters strengthen essential skills. The seminar promises not only critical information and techniques to feel safe and confident on the water, but also chances to win great prizes, network with other women boaters, enjoy a sumptuous lunch and laugh with each other. Parking is free on the street or $4.00 in the Diamond lot just south of the Yacht Club. Please remember that Yacht Club Parking is for Yacht club members only.
Program 8:00 AM - Doors open - Coffee and pastries 8:30 AM - Welcome 9-10:15 - Alison Mazon - Strategy Vs Strength How women boaters can plan and use simple physics to make up for up for less physical size and strength for problem solving on boats. Use of block and tackle, etc. 10:15-10:30 - Girls at the Helm Scholarship recipients from last year tell about their time aboard the Adventuress and what it meant to them. 10:30-10:45 - Break - Networking 10:45-12 noon - Ace Spragg - Docking 12-1pm - Lunch
1-2pm - Hands-on- Fair Knot tying Jeanne Rynne Line heaving Judy(Grable)Laing Fenders & Docking signals Ace Spragg Marine radio use Lynne Reister Charts 101 Barbara Emmons Legal Requirements Coast Guard Auxilery 2-3:15 - Lynn Reister - Buying a Boat - Clubhouse Alison Mazon - Outboards 101 - Boathouse 3:15-3:30 - Break 3:30-3:45 - Raffle - Girls at the Helm scholarship program 3:45-5pm - Sea-She stories - Share stories about boating problems and how they were solved.Examples might include: a loss of steering, fog, plan B for weather and current issues, engine failure, open through hulls, line around prop, my boat/my rules... 5 pm - Close & Networking - Share contact information with those you may want to get in touch with.
