Mashed Up Songs & Dances with PGK Dance STANDING ROOM Only Available WAITING LIST contact: Admin@ThePGKProject.org
The PGK Dance Project PREMIERS "Mashed Up Songs & Dances" in
the Sparks Gallery in the Gaslamp District February 27th @ 730pm.

This ONE NIGHT Only event is in association with the first annual San Diego Theater Week produced by the San Diego Performing Arts League!

The PGK Dance Project, San Diego's inventive, most widely-travelled top-tier contemporary dance company, breaking attendance records again and again continues to innovate and produced exciting, entertaining public experiences performing for the first time in the stunning Sparks Gallery.

"Mashed Up Songs & Dances" was inspired by collaborations between PGK Dance Director/Choreographer Peter Kalivas and Theater Director, Cabaret artist, music arranger Rayme Sciaroni.  Sciaroni, has been successfully mashing dispirate songs together in unexpected ways for several years to the delight of audiences at cabaret shows he's produced.  Kalivas, in addition to being a world class dancer/choreographer on and off Broadway and in both Ballet and Contemporary/Modern dance companies in New York City and Europe before relocating to San Diego is an equally accomplished singer having worked on Broadway, studio recordings for several labels and production companies including Dick Clark's.  Over the last year Kalivas guest sang twice on Sciaroni's Cabaret shows and so the idea to expand on "mashing" even more songs and putting them with dances that are also "mashed" in some equally unexpected way was born.

Music Part includes mash ups of:
Katy Perry's "Firework" with Pink's "Glitter"
"Torn" by Natalia Imbruglia with Sarah Bareilles' "Brave"
Adele's "Hello" with John Legend's "All of Me"
Featuring Singers: Jazley Genovese, Natalia Hill, Dairrick Hodges, Peter Kalivas

Dance Part includes phrases inspired by each song by guest choreographers:
Kymberly Kellems

James LeMaster

Alyssa Junious

Natalia Hill

with Peter Kalivas who will mash these phrases in collaboration in unexpected ways creating dances that mash with these new music versions.

"It is about the surprising results experiments like this produces." Says both Kalivas and Sciaroni

This Program also includes:

"Grace Unfolding" originally choreographed by Terry Wilson for The San Diego Fringe Festival for 2 women now re-set on 2 men of The PGK Dance Project

"Beginning to END" originally choreographed by Peter Kalivas for The Diversionary Theater inspired by Nicolas Reveles' (San Diego Opera) "Before and After" depicting 2 gay couples at very different places in their relationships. Reveles will perform on piano the original accompaniment for 4 Opera singers the counterpoint that inspired the dance with music together for the first time.

"Thinking Out Loud" with "live vocals" by Kalivas and guest singer Molly Mapes with guitar featuring PGK Dancers Ron Davis and Jennifer Fait.

Andrew Pearson's (LA Contemporary Dance Company) "unexpectedly groovy" work which premiered Sept. 2015 at The Lyceum Theater, San Diego on The PGK Dance Project to a jazzy version of Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" will literally fill the gallery space with dancers.

PGK Dance's own "Riff-Off" (inspired by the movie "Pitch Perfect") closes the show inviting the audience to both sing and dance with us!
