Shorouk 2016

This year we welcome Rita Alderucci of Hahbi'Ru to Charleston, SC!

Rita Alderucci (aka Rebaba) began her career under the tutelage of the legendary Jamila Salimpour. Under Jamila's guidance she danced in ensemble and as a soloist in the world renowned Middle Eastern Dance company Bal-Anat. During the 70's and 80's Rita danced her way throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East. She was one of the first American Oriental dancers to perform in Paris, France. Rita returned to Hollywood in 1983 where she performed in every major supper club in the Los Angeles area. In the late 80's Rita collaborated with the legendary John Compton to create the Hahbi'Ru dance ensemble. John and Rita lead Hahbi-Ru together for over 16 years. During this time they created a large and unique collection of ethnically diverse group choreographies. We are very honored to have her share her vast knowledge and experience with us!

Saturday 9:30am-3:30pm, with an hour lunch break from 12-1pm
She will be teaching Hahbi'Ru basics, and the Farasha (flirt dance) Choreography..

Saturday evening 7-9pm Showcase

Sunday 9:30am-3:30pm with an hour lunch break from 12-1pm
She will be teaching balancing technique for pot, basket or tray and the Hahbi'Ru Pot dance Choreography.

***no refunds will be given on tickets, if you decide not to attend after purchasing a ticket, it will be your responsibility to try to sell your ticket***

The workshop is open to ages 14 and up. Anyone younger than that must first get permission from the organizer, and be accompanied by a participating adult.

Performance slots will be open to workshop attendees only, and will be limited to 12 or so acts. Once registered for the workshop, you will receive a performance application. Anyone selected to perform will not be required to purchase a show ticket.

Children 10 and under can attend the showcase for free free with a paying adult.
