SLOW Pinot, Small Plates
Slow Food Corvallis's next adventure will be to flip the usual food and wine pairing conundrum. Instead of asking which wine goes with our special locally-produced foods, we'll discover which foods go best with a particular and very special wine: Oregon Pinot Noir. And not just any Oregon Pinot Noir, but the exceptional and original SLOW Pinot Noir developed by Don Oman (co-founder of Slow Food Portland) in collaboration with eleven of Oregon's best Pinot Noir producers!
Join us for a tapas-style small plates menu prepared by two creative local chefsAaron Schorsch and JC Mersmannat Gathering Together Farm's Garden Room. We'll try tastes of local specialtiesmushrooms, pork, lamb, hazelnuts, squash, and other delicacies*and learn about how this exciting, juicy 2014 Pinot Noir was conceived and brought to fruition as a fundraiser for Oregon Slow Food activities. Joining us will be John Paul, founder and winemaker of Cameron Winery (http://cameronwines.com/) who will share some insights from 30 years of producing wine in Oregon. Paul's wine, along with wine from 10 other outstanding Oregon producers, is included in the blend that makes Oregon SLOW Pinot Noir so spectacular.
The evening will focus exclusively on tasting SLOW Pinot Noir with dishes prepared specifically to pair with its flavors and aromas. Participants will enjoy two 5 oz. pours of the wine along with five plated and served courses. Additional wine will be available for purchase by the glass or bottle. Take a bottle of SLOW Pinot Noir home for a gift or for a perfect addition to your holiday table. Proceeds will help Slow Food Corvallis send farmers, chefs, and food activists to Terra Madre 2016, a biennial gathering in Italy of food folks from all over the world.
SLOW Pinot Noir pedigree: The following eleven artisan family producers contributed to this project based on their quality wines, sustainable agriculture practices, and desire to support the work of Slow Food. These wineries each follow their own sustainable path, but most belong to an array of environmentally responsible certifying organizations such as LIVE, Deep Roots Coalition, Demeter (biodynamic), Oregon Tilth (organic), and Salmon Safe.
