CULINARY HISTORIANS OF NEW YORK PRESENTS A PROGRAM TO TOAST THE NEW YEAR

"Vermouth: The Spirit That Started It All"

with Adam Ford

NEW DATE: Thursday, January 21, 2016

Vermouth, a nineteenth-century fortified wine with fascinating botanical flavors, is on the upswing wherever trendy drinks are served.  For almost a century, vermouth was not only an important ingredient in popular cocktails such as the Manhattan and Martini, but a prized aperitif in its own right.

Adam Ford will tell the celebrated history of vermouth, its production past and present, and how it created cocktail culture in New York City in the mid-1800s. As he shares vermouth's rich history, Ford will discuss how American producers have transformed the perception of vermouth and influenced its current embrace by bartenders and consumers alike.

Adam Ford is a lawyer and the producer of Atsby New York Vermouth. He is also the author of Vermouth: The Revival of the Spirit That Created America's Cocktail Culture, published by Countryman Press in June 2015.

A reception with festive snacks and vermouth cocktails will precede the talk. During the talk, tastes of Ford's own Atsby Vermouth will be passed.
