Ukiah Farmers' Market Celebration Winter Feast
The Ukiah Farmers Market and Friends are thrilled to invite our local community to join in celebrating the 2015 growing season at the second annual Winter Celebration.  Guests from last year's event at the Elk's Lodge are sure to remember what a great time we all had, and we hope that you can join us again!

The event will take place on Wednesday, December 2nd from 5  9 pm at the Ukiah Senior Center's Bartlett Hall. Funds raised from the event will go directly to the Good Farm Fund, a newly launched Mendocino County non-profit which is fundraising for the Ukiah Farmers Market EBT match program as well as their Farm Grant Program.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for youth under 15.  Caroline Radice and Jason Pluck of Black Dog Farm will be working with a crew of volunteers to prepare an abundant farm-to-table  menu showcasing the best locally grown winter produce, pastured meats and artisan cheeses, grains and more. Vegetarian and gluten-free meal options will be available. The no-host bar will feature local beer and wines, with hot cider and other non-alcoholic beverages available as well. A silent auction featuring local merchants and artisans will provide guests an additional opportunity to support the Good Farm Fund. Them Travelin' Birds, with their jazzy roots and west coast-punkgrass approach, will highlight the evening by providing the entertainment.

Good Farm Fund was founded by a group of farmers, local food supporters, and farmers' market managers to make small, local, and diversified agriculture a common pursuit of all sectors in our community. The fund has two branches: the Farm Grant  Program and the Farmers' Market EBT Matching Program. Its mission is to provide direct financial support to small farmers in Mendocino and Lake Counties and increase local food security for all members of our region.

Good Farm Fund views farmers' markets as playing a key role in developing our local food system and growing the local economy. Markets serve as anchors across our community by positively influencing health of shoppers and providing an economic stimulus. Healthy farmers' markets result in more viable regional economies and local farm businesses, increased access to fresh, nutritious food, and stronger social networks.

Funds raised from the December 2nd event will support the EBT Match Program at the Ukiah Farmers' Market and the Farm Grant Program.  The EBT or Food Stamp Match Program is an effective way to support local farms and make local food more accessible for low-income community members. The program successfully redirects the subsidies away from industrial food in large commercial supermarkets to local farmers by giving EBT users an additional dollar for every dollar they spend at the market, up to $15. The Ukiah market has an EBT machine, like a debit or credit card processor, and an EBT recipient may use their benefits by simply swiping their card, indicate how much they want to take out, and receive tokens to spend at the market. The result is EBT customers double their spending power which puts more money into our local economy.

First 5 Mendocino, North Coast Opportunities, Ukiah Natural Foods Co-op, Hoyman Studios, and Westside Renaissance Market are sponsoring the event.  For more information contact Scott Cratty at 707 462-0083 or cratty@comcast.net.
