Falling In Love With Love: The Songs of Lorenz Hart
Lorenz Milton Hart was one of the greatest lyricists of the twentieth century. A child of German Jewish immigrants who grew up in New York City, Larry Hart wrote some of the most enduring popular songs of all time with composer Richard Rodgers  including "My Funny Valentine," "Blue Moon," "Manhattan," "Where or When," "Mountain Greenery," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Dancing On the Ceiling," "Glad To Be Unhappy." "Isn't It Romantic," "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered," "Johnny One Note," "Little Girl Blue," and "This Can't Be Love" for more than 26 Broadway musicals and several movies.

A life-long bachelor who lived with his widowed mother, Hart suffered from alcoholism and later in his life would disappear for weeks at a time on binges, which created stress in his collaboration with Rodgers.

According to Stephen Holden of The New York Times, "Many of Hart's lyrics were the confessional outpourings of a hopeless romantic who loathed his own body Hart, who stood just under five feet tall and wreathed himself in cigar smoke, saw himself as an undesirable freak. Homosexual in the era of the closet, he pursued a tormented erotic life of which only hints appear in his songs."

Singer Will McMillan and jazz pianist Joe Reid will perform many of Hart's best songs and share stories about how they came to be written.

Third Life Studio features a great Steinway grand piano, and refreshments (with an emphasis on chocolate) will be served during intermission.

P.S. Will's last show at Third Life Studio sold out a month in advance; so you might want to buy your tickets sooner rather than later.

A member of SAG, AFTRA and Equity, Will has performed as a featured vocalist at venues from Cambridge to Shanghai  including Scullers Jazz Club, Oberon, Sanders Theatre, John F. Kennedy Library, Middleast Cafe, TT the Bear's, Arlington Street Church, Diamond Jim's, Johnny D's, Jacques, the Ocean's Inn (Provincetown, MA), Hi-Hat Club (RI), Inn on Newfound Lake (NH), Spring Island (SC), Westbeth Performance Center (NYC), Hotchkiss School (CT), Star Island (NH) and Yin Par Le Garcon Chinois (Shanghai).

For many years he hosted Will & Company, a series highlighting local singers and songwriters at the Blacksmith House in Harvard Square, earning an IRNE award from the Independent Reviewers of New England for Best Cabaret Show in a small venue.

McMillan has done commercials, voice-overs, and made-for-TV movies  and was even a standby for the role of Theo in the original production of Pippin on Broadway in the early 1970's.

Locally he has appeared on WCVB-TV, WGBH radio, WBZ radio and WERS radio.

He has released seven recordings: If I Loved You with singer Bobbi Carrey and pianist Doug Hammer; Reel One with vocal quartet "At The Movies;" Simple with guitarist/songwriter Jonathan Keezing; and Whimsy: The Allston Years, Will Sings Sondheim, Sketchbook #1, and Blame Those Gershwins with pianist/composer Steve Sweeting.
