2nd Sunday Chamber Music Series: Unexpected Brass
Get Cozy with the PSO!

Seacoast brass regulars come together to present program of classics painted with a new sonic brush at The Dance Hall in Kittery.

James Clark, Claude Fried, Jennifer Lanter Larson, and Zach Lange make up this group of musicians who are putting old wine in new bottles  performing music written for other instruments, but played by brass. Their program includes pieces by: Telemann originally for two horns, but played with horn and alto trombone; Satie originally for piano but played by brass quartet; Saint-Saens originally for bassoon but played by trombone; Shostakovich originally for string quartet but played by brass quartet; Kenny Wheeler originally for string quartet and trumpet solo but played by brass quartet; the Gabrieli opener is originally for a different configuration of brass however, it is being played as a frame of reference for the audience to hear a standard piece in the repertoire.

In addition to the re-bottling of older music, this group will present the world premiere of Propulsion Points by Thomas Caprino. Caprino is a composer/multi-instrumentalist from Campbell Hall, New York. Mr. Caprino earned a bachelors degree in Bass Trombone performance from The Conservatory of Music at SUNY Purchase. His chamber music has been performed by various New York-based ensembles including The Guidonian Hand and the Human Jukebox Trio. Currently, Tommy studies composition and orchestration as part of the Evening Division at the Juilliard School.
