Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble with New Jersey Chamber Singers
Ring in the season with a unique program of choir and handbells as the Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble joins with the New Jersey Chamber Singers to present a program featuring fun arrangements of your favorite carols, as well as a few new holiday pieces for choir and bells.
Philadelphia Handbell Ensemble, a community ensemble comprised of auditioned, advanced-level handbell ringers from Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, was established in November, 2003.
The ensemble performs on 6 octaves of Schulmerich handbells, 6 octaves of handchimes, 2 octaves of Schulmerich Silver Melody Bells and 2 octaves of Petit and Fritsen handbells. The ensemble performs a wide variety of music including original compositions, arrangements of popular tunes, and transcriptions of classical literature.
Recently, PHE has performed as a guest artist on a local Philadelphia rock station 93.3 WMMR, in the 6ABC Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Philadelphia Independence Day Parade, and performed as part of Philadelphia's Academy of Music's 158th Anniversary celebration.
New Jersey Chamber Singers seeks to engage, enrich and inspire New Jersey audiences through the performance of high-quality choral music.
Founded in 1978 by Dr. Jeffrey Unger, the New Jersey Chamber Singers (NJCS) aimed to provide NJ audiences with quality performances of choral music written for the small ensemble. NJCS soon emerged as the premier vocal chamber ensemble of the Jersey Shore and has performed at the American Choral Directors Association conventions in Baltimore and Philadelphia as well as the Washington National Cathedral in D.C. and Alice Tully Hall in New York City.
More recently, NJCS has begun to expand its audience beyond the Jersey Shore to encompass the entire state of New Jersey. We generally perform in smaller, more intimate spaces because we believe chamber music creates a unique bond between performers and audience. The ensemble's sensitive artistry, imaginative concert themes and eclectic repertoire have become the signature of the NJCS concert experience.
