Heartbreaker is the Pacific Northwest's one and only female-fronted Led Zeppelin tribute. Founded by drummer Roger Baldwin, the band comprises four notable and seasoned musicians from the Seattle music scene. Baldwin, a current and former member of several noteworthy cover and original bands (Lounge Vultures, Tahoma Souls Alive, TerraNova), is known for his rock-solid tempo, precision, and power. The rhythm section is co-anchored by original Heartbreaker bassist Robert Alberson, a man who plays like he was born with a bass in hand, and whose years of playing experience have seen him tour from LA to Montreal and record under the production of Spencer Davis. Together, they are uncanny in their ability to provide that must-have Zeppelin groove.
Heartbreaker's other original member, Doug Samm, is known to many in the PNW as a versatile guitarist extraordinaire who has been laying down spot-on rhythms and spectacular leads in popular cover and original bands for years (Chrome Molly, Loud Mouth Blonde, and TerraNova, among many others). His understanding of the tonal and technical nuances of Jimmy Page's playing allows him to excel at the difficult task of replicating Page's sound.
The band was off and running, playing festivals such as the Bite of Seattle and Taste of Tacoma, when original singer Dawn Lindsey decided to move back to her native California. Enter vocalist Angela Hammontree, who is well-known in the PNW as an original songwriter, bandleader, and powerhouse singer. She has led live projects and recorded under her own name for more than a decade, playing countless venues and festivals, as well as being featured on local radio and TV. She has also performed in cover bands, and started considering becoming part of a tribute just as good friend Lindsey was moving and leaving the band. Encouraged by her to audition, Hammontree was offered the spot straightaway, and completes the outfit by providing those highly anticipated, signature Plant high notes in a clear, powerful, pitch-perfect way.
Now, the new incarnation of Heartbreaker is again quickly gaining traction, having played several top area venues and even a festival gig within just their first few months together. As a female-fronted unit, the band is not so much a copycat as it is a modern yet faithful, expertly delivered display of the power and skill of one of the world's best-loved rock bands, Led Zeppelin. If you want to feel the power of their catalog as expressed through top-notch musicianship all across the board, Heartbreaker is the Zeppelin tribute you need to see.
