Hi all! Shannon here.
I've been wanting so badly to be able to do something to help my mother, Susan, who was (re)diagnosed at the start of the summer with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. She just finished her first 12 weeks of chemo, and the outlook is very positive, though of course, no one is ever completely done with this kind of cancer. She will be in some form of cancer-battling treatment mode for the rest of her life, and all I want to do is help relieve her stress and financial worry, so that she is able to fully enjoy the years to come. I can absolutely guarantee my love and support to her, but there is little I can do to help her financially.
For this reason, I am planning a fundraising walk this Spring in order to lessen the financial burden she faces. Being in constant treatment is not cheap, what with all of the medications, tests, and doctor's visits, not to mention the realities of day to day life. I am 28 years old, but my brother is only 12, and he should not be touched by the financial scope of the forever ongoing and expensive treatments our mother will be needing for the rest of her life. She is unable to work because of the lymphedema in her arm, as a result of her first bout with cancer, and my stepfather's job is currently stable but rather insecure. My grandparents are incredibly helpful and wonderful people, but they are not wealthy, and all of their retirement money should not be spent on this.
From the bottom of my heart, I ask you to join me for a fundraising walk this Spring in order to show your support for my mother, Susan.
We will be accepting donations at the YouCaring website run by my mother. All of the donations made there go directly to her paypal, and then on to her bank account. Please share this link with family, friends, and co-workers in the months before the walk. (https://www.youcaring.com/susan-richmeier-382117)
Please meet us at the entrance to the 606 elevated trail at the Ridgeway Trailhead at 11:00am on Saturday May 14th, and bring a picnic lunch and join us afterward at the other end, at Walsh Park! It is free to join the walk, but please sign up here to let me know you will be there, and please please please share this cause with as many people as you can in the coming months!
Honestly, your help and support means the world to me and my family. We cannot do this without you.
