Designer Salon and Book Signing, featuring Julia Farwell-Clay
Julia Farwell-Clay, author of From Folly Cove featuring designs inspired by the Folly Cove Designers of Cape Ann, Mass., who collaborated on hand printed textiles in the mid-20th century. (Salon runs from 7:00 to 8:15 p.m.)
Triple Trunk Show
Our teaching artists and noted designers Ellen Mason and Julia Farwell-Clay, along with members of the Berroco Design Team, present their finished and published works for this annual trunk show.
Textile Art Exhibition
Artist Saberah Malik presents works of colorful and delicate shibori textile, surface design, and fiber sculpture of two and three dimensions.

1. Design 101: Chart Original Knitted Motifs / Julia Farwell-Clay
Chart paper and a little visual inspiration is all it takes to design something truly original. Julia Farwell-Clay will talk a little about her design inspirations from the printed textiles of The Folly Cove Designers, and then lead you through the steps she takes to develop charted motifs for knit design. Bring a coffee table or art book you love, a few yarns (or more) of medium weight (DK or Worsted) in colors you like together, and needles to match. Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate.
2. Crochet for Knitters / Alison Green
Crochet can be an easy and effective way to add beautiful edgings to knitted garments, and it also stands alone as an excellent craft to learn for accessories, home decor, and even sweaters! In this class you will gain a strong grasp of the basic crochet stitches, and we will explore what crochet does best and how it can complement your knitting. Bring one or more knitted swatches, 4" square or larger, knit in worsted weight or DK yarn, plus the yarn you used for your swatch(es) and a couple other spare balls of yarn, and crochet hooks in appropriate sizes for your chosen yarns.
3. Build a Raglan by Yourself / Ellen Mason
Many knitters have a sweater quantity of lovely yarn that does not match up to a satisfying sweater pattern. Why not create your own pattern? Let's dissect raglan sleeve construction - shaping every other row, shaping every fourth row, a smooth underarm curve, how to get the number of stitches and your stitch pattern to align with your sweater vision. Bring a calculator (ack, a calculator? no worries!), some yarn, and a variety of needle sizes appropriate for your yarn.

Enjoy a catered luncheon attend by our KW teaching artists and other regional fiber and textile artists, and you! Engage in a roundtable discussion about design, craft, skill, inspiration, and any topics of importance to luncheon attendees. Wines and other beverages will be served. Live jazz by the Debra Mann Trio.

1. Introduction to Fair Isle / Julia Farwell-Clay
A traditional knitting technique named after a tiny island in the north of Scotland, Fair Isle is used to create patterns with multiple colors. We'll cast on together with teacher provided yarn and practice different ways of working with 2 yarns at once, and reading color work from a chart. Adventurous Beginner.
2. Magic Loop Fingerless Mitts / Alison Green
Do you find double-pointed needles fiddly and annoying for knitting small circumferences in the round, such as mittens or socks? Drop those dons, grab a long circular, and try out the Magic Loop method, while whipping up some cute, easy fingerless mitts. Bring a skein of DK, worsted or bulky weight yarn (the pattern is written for multiple weights), and a circular needle, 32" or 36" long, with a smooth join (Addi Turbos, for example), in a size appropriate for chosen yarn.
3. A Knitter's Recipe Box: Tips, Tricks & Unkept Secrets / Ellen Mason
Let's dig into a recipe box full of choice tips and tricks from books, the internet, friends, family, and the knitter sitting next to you. Learn a handy cast-on, a simple trick to work faster on circular needles, how to keep track of rows, a secure method for setting stitches aside, hiding places for your stash, and other that-is-so-simple discoveries. Please bring a variety of needle styles and some scrap yarn for swatching, as well as your favorite trick. This is going to be fun!

Free and open to the public, our popular Fiber Art Vendor Marketplace hosts some of the finest yarn producers, spinners, dyers, and micro-farmers in New England. The Rhode Island Hook and Needle Guild will hold their annual sale of home-baked goods, and on-site demonstrations of spinning, weaving, and knitting will help adorn our historic space with live practice. The Slater Mill gift shop will also be open.

(NOTE - PLEASE, do not use this registration option if you intend to cancel your registration if your first choice is not available!! See cancellation & refund policy below.)
I further indicate that I have read, understand, and agree to the "CANCELLATION AND REFUND POLICY" as follows: If I cancel my registration on or before December 31st, I will receive a refund of 80% of registration fees I have paid. If I cancel my registration between January 1st and January 8th, I will receive a 50% refund of fees I have paid. If I cancel after January 8, 2016, or I am a "no show" for the events or classes, I will receive no refund (zero percent) of the fees I have paid.
