Hamden High School's Mainstage Ensemble Presents The Tempest
Hamden High School's theater company, Mainstage Ensemble, will present Shakespeare's romantic comedy, The Tempest. The production will run Thursday, December 3rd to Sunday December 6th 2015.
Written around 1611, The Tempest is believed to be Shakespeare's last play. Deserted on an island, the rightful Duke of Milan, Prospero, conjures a tempest to shipwreck his usurping brother Antonio and Alonsa, Queen of Naples. Ferdinand, the queen's son, believes all others aboard the ship have drowned. When he meets Prospero's daughter Miranda, they immediately fall in love. Some of the survivors of the shipwreck conspire with Caliban, Prospero's beastly slave, to murder Prospero. But it is up to the wrongly banished ruler of Milan to decide whether to use his mystic arts to seek vengeance or to forgive.
"The Tempest is a comedy of magical creatures, love, and forgiveness on a faraway island, which is sure to captivate an audience in any time period, " says director Hollie Michaels, who leads the creative team for The Tempest composed of Scenic Designer Gennie Neuman Lambert, Costume Designer Sara Normand, and Lighting Designer Gregory J. Downing.
The cast is led by senior Raymond Looney as Prospero. He is joined by fellow seniors Nicollet Laframboise (Ariel), Tazje Henry Phillip (Alonsa), Eilee Dingus (Francisco), and Noah Levine (Stephano). The cast also includes the talents of Tevin Gardner (Sebastian), Matthew Mercado (Antonio), Sean Humble (Ferdinand), Amy Nicefaro (Gonzalo), Edward Lorsin (Caliban), Nina Allison (Trinculo), and Isabel Marchand as Prospero's young daughter Miranda. The groups of spirits, royals, and mariners round out the cast of characters.
