This 1983 romantic musical, directed, co-written, co-produced and starring Barbra Streisand is based on the Isaac Bashevis Singer story Yentl, the Yesihva Boy and portrays the odyssey of an Ashkenazi Jewish girl in Poland who decides to dress and live like a man so that she can receive an education Talmudic Law after her father dies. Co-starring Mandy Patinkin and Amy Irving, and Streisand singing Papa, Can You Hear Me? and The Way He Makes Me Feel, songs by Michel Legrand.
