Chamber Music with Jamie Laval & Amy Bruscksch
Violinist Jamie Laval returns to his classical roots to team up with guitarist Amy Brucksch in a kaleidoscopic program featuring the operatically lyrical sonatas by Paganini, the brusk, edgy Romanian Dances by Bartok, a rarely heard sonata by Handel, a work of Argentine tango master Astor Piazzola, and even one of Laval's own compositions in a Celtic style.

Artist Bios:

Hailing from the Pacific Northwest and now making his home in Tryon, NC, Laval studied classical violin at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in British Columbia. During the earlier years of his professional career he performed with the Victoria Symphony, Northwest Chamber Orchestra, and Seattle Opera. In 2002 Laval won the U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Championship which launched his now full-time career in Celtic music with a schedule of over 80 solo performances per year nationally. He is featured regularly on NPR, has recorded numerous movie sound tracks and three solo albums ("Best World Traditional Album, 2012 Independent Music Awards), and gave a private performance for Her Majesty The Queen. A devoted and respected educator, Laval teaches classes and workshops for institutions such as St. Andrews University (Laurinburg, NC), Davidson College (Davidson, NC), California State University (San Marcos, CA), John C. Campbell Folk School, and The Swannanoa Gathering. Laval performs on an exquisite violin made by Kurt Widenhouse of Belmont, NC.

Classical guitarist Amy Brucksch performs throughout the Southeast, celebrating the rich heritage of the classical guitar, and exploring musical connections with world-renowned musicians as diverse as Celtic fiddlers, Baroque harpsichordists and African percussionists. She has a highly regarded CD, Luminescence, with flutist Kate Steinbeck, and plays regularly with Pan Harmonia, a chamber music ensemble based in Asheville, NC. Her local performances include the Greenville Symphony Spotlight Series, Wofford College Troubadour Series, and at Brevard College and Anderson University. Formerly on the faculty of the University of Toledo and Adrian College, she was an Ohio Arts Council Touring Artist. Her music degrees are from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and Bowling Green State University. She currently teaches classical guitar at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and has a private studio at Wild Roots Fine Arts Center in Forest City. Amy lives in Tryon, NC and plays a guitar custom made for her by California luthier, Gregory Byers.
