Join us for our fall fundraiser, a screening of the coming-of-age film, The Perks of Being a Wallflower! This will be a unique opportunity to see this critically acclaimed film on the big screen, in good company, on a comfy couch, with snacks from the cafe at The New Parkway. Stick around after the film and join us on the Upper Mezzanine for a post-film discussion led by Bill Burmester, M.A., M.F.T.
Doors open at 12:00 and the film starts promptly at 12:30!
A little bit about the film:
The film The Perks of Being a Wallflower is based on the book of the same name and was written for the screen and directed by the book's author, Stephen Chbosky. The book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower, is currently at the center of a book ban debate and has made the Top 10 list of the most banned books in American schools due to concerns about its content and exploration of topics such as teenage sex/sexuality, queerness, abuse, sexual abuse, drugs, alcohol, and dating violence. The film explores other themes such as isolation, bullying, relationships, friendship, love, and family. We look forward to discussing the movie together after the screening.
