Seances, vampires, ghost stories, faeires, mesmerism, secret societies, spirit photography... the Victorians lived in a magical world of occult possibilities, where science and the supernatural blended seamlessly into everyday life. Come and explore dark Victoriana with the New York 19th Century Society! Tickets include FREE admission to The Museum of Interesting Things Secret Speakeasy immediately following, where you can see and handle real antiques and artifacts and enjoy lively discussion over drinks with fellow 19th-century enthusiasts.

About the speakers:
Leah Richards is an Assistant Professor of English at LaGuardia Community College. Her research interests lie primarily in the Gothic from 1764 to the present, but she also dabbles in revenge, cannibalism, and intersectional feminism. She co-authors theater reviews for the website Culture Catch, and is the Executive Editor of Supernatural Studies.
Catherine Siemann works on Victorian and Romantic literature, contemporary popular culture, and the intersections between the two. She has published on Wilkie Collins, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, steampunk, Ada Lovelace, and Lewis Carroll. Catherine directs the Writing Center at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and has a Ph.D. in 19th Century British Literature from Columbia University. She is assistant editor of Supernatural Studies.
Frank Todaro is a NYC-based voice actor, actor and host of radio programs and live events. He is the host of the award-winning science and paranormal radio program "The Invisible World," which features guests from various disciplines associated with space flight and theoretical physics, offering a level playing field to both the hard sciences and the more esoteric ones. Frank has given lectures on various space-related topics at the 2014 Worlds Science Fair, appeared as a guest on The Science Channel's Sci-Fi Science: Physics of the Impossible, and has also given lectures on UFOs of the Victorian era, spirit photography and other 19th-century topics at symposiums across the country.
