RIO/STRIHO Double Bill at O'Mara's
Rio and the Rockabilly Revival and the Carolyn Striho Group, team up once again for one of their legendary barn-burner double bill concerts!
For the first time, catch this amazing show in an intimate setting: O'Mara's Irish Pub of Berkley, Michigan! Both acts are multi-award winning, major headlining artists famous for their bombastic live shows. This same double bill has repeatedly sold out larger venues. With O'Mara's only having 185 seats, be sure to get your tickets NOW! They will not last!
Rio and Carolyn are excited to bring this show to a smaller, intimate venue to allow you to be so close to the action, you could almost reach out and touch them. Plus, take advantage of O'Mara's excellent drink selection and full menu while you rock the night away!
RIO AND THE ROCKABILLY REVIVAL BIO: Rio and the Rockabilly Revival was built on the vision of Rio Scafone. Rio believes in the power of honest music; the kind of music found back in the day, when players had to earn the title, "Professional Musician." This multi award winning band brings and old school sound with a modern day edge with a full stage show that includes full tilt energy, choreography and soaring, powerful vocals.
Rio and the Rockabilly Revival was voted one of the Top 100 Indie Bands by the iconic Music Magazine (Los Angeles), voted as Best Local Band (Originals) by the general public in HOUR Magazine's Best Of issue- for two years in a row! They also won Outstanding Americana Group at the 2015 Detroit Music Awards and were final ballot nominees for Best Live Show and Best Vocalist. They have been seen and heard on numerous radio and television shows and just completed a successful European Tour.
" Rio Scafone is a firebrand; a hell-spitting minx whose core, however, is hope and salvation. And, frankly, enough earthy sex appeal to move tectonic plates. Whipping an audience into a frenzy worthy of a revival tent is akin to water rolling off a duck's back for Rio and company." -Tom Stevens, Metro Vibe Magazine, Oct 2012
Born into Rock 'N Roll royalty, Rio came up under her famous uncle, early rock pioneer Jack Scott. She carries on the family tradition of serving up spitfire Roots Rock 'N Soul music. What was also instilled in her was that the audience owes you nothing.
" Scafone's on stage, twisting, gyrating and owning every inch like some sort of possessed, evangelical-satanic dervish. It's at once nostalgic performance art, killer show band and a rock 'n roll wonder." -Brett Callwood, The MetroTimes, March 2012.

CAROLYN STRIHO BAND: Regarded as one of the city's best singer/songwriters, Carolyn Striho made her name fronting the dynamic Detroit Energy Asylum and her work with Patti Smith. And in the last couple dozen years as a solo performer, Carolyn has gained a strong reputation for charismatic, high-energy stage performances with her songs, vocals, guitar and keyboards. Wildly original, melodic and passionate, Striho's music has been described as being written "from the silver edge of midnight."
Carolyn won the Outstanding Rock Songwriter of the Year in the 2015 Detroit Music Awards, and her CD "Word Attack," won the Outstanding Acoustic/Americana CD of the Year in the 2014 Detroit Music Awards. She did another tour of Italy in August 2014 and has worked through a serious illness, battling back to the studio and stage. "Is it rock & roll? Yes, and it's also bad-ass, sidewinding, erotic music that isn't afraid to use a soft hand before cracking the whip!" Thom Jurek All Music Guide
A lifelong Detroiter, Carolyn was the lead singer/songwriter and keyboardist of the early art/punk/jazz era combos the Cubes and Rough Cut. She then fronted her all-star ensemble Detroit Energy Asylum before embarking on a wide-ranging solo career in which she's explored rock, pop, folk, jazz, punk rock, cabaret and alternative music. The delightful difficulty people have in pigeonholing Striho was underscored in one of her Detroit Music Award trophies in 2010, a startling victory for her techno remix of "Promised Land" from her Outstanding CD of the Year in Rock/Pop, "Honesty." Carolyn's been nominated for nearly 50 Detroit Music Awards in recent years, and won numerous; her song "Enchante" received an Honorable Mention as Song of the Year in Billboard Magazine. And Carolyn has performed at Lollapalooza, Donne In Musica Rome, tours in England and several months performing in Japan. Carolyn also performed with legendary producer Don Was at Detroit's Concert of Colors, and performed again with Don this year again in Detroit, too! She's toured through Chicago, Toronto and the Midwest, performed at major festivals in Michigan, Canada, England and Italy, and many shows in Detroit and outstate festivals and clubs. Carolyn's videos, including "Promised Land" and "Sing it to Me," have been nominated and screened for several music awards locally and in Germany and other US independent film festivals.
"Word Attack is a true-to-form seven-track minialbum from Detroit's rocker-turnedchanteuse. The title track has driving guitar and sugary-pissed vocals, while "Always in my Heart" is an acoustic gem typical of contemporary Striho. Plus, "Enchante," a staple of the live show for some time, is excellent." (Brett Callwood, Metro Times 2013). Carolyn played with Patti Smith and the Patti Smith Group on several tours, including London's Meltdown in 2005 and Patti's comeback tour in 1995, both in Michigan and Toronto, Canada. Carolyn played again with Patti at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor, Michigan and with Patti and her band again at the soldout Majestic Theatre in Detroit in 2013. Carolyn has opened for artist Steve Earle in London, U.K., performed with Yoko Ono and Sinead O'Connor, and has performed with Iggy Pop and the Ramones. Carolyn also had a huge honor performing at the Detroit International Jazz Festival in 2009.
"Carolyn is a poetic songwriter who plays piano (sometimes with the heel of her boot) and acoustic guitar (with her fingers) while singing in a style that might be jazzy, bluesy, torchy, fiery or any combination of the abovestrutting and growling and singing a version of "Downtown" that would have made Petula Clark feel like a tourist, she's worth tracking down!" (Neal Rubin, Detroit News, 2013) Carolyn and her band appear in several international films, including a German film called "Motor City Music" with legendary Detroit artists, recently screened in Germany and France and shown last year at the Montreal Film Festival and in London. Her music is also featured in the recent Emmy awarded PBS film "The Embrace of Aging." Carolyn and her comrade/guitarist Scott Dailey are currently recording another new album to be released in late 2015/early 2016 with very special guests. From Carolyn's early punk/art/free form days as lead songwriter and vocalist with Farfisa organ and dance mania energy onstage to her later hard rhythmic DEA band with the Was (Not) Was ensemble, Carolyn continues to walk to her own drum down an amazing path. "Carolyn Striho is a singer/songwriter with a vibrant voice, passion and energy. Carolyn's a very respected Detroit songwiter and amazing live performer. She's been on tour and in the studio with Patti Smith, Steve Earle, Luis Resto (Eminem) and David McMurray (Kid Rock). She's a truly exciting artista!" (Go Girls Music 2014)
