Oswego PorchFest Fundraising Concert "The Shambles" and "Ronda Helene"
Building on the success of Oswego's 1st PorchFest the organizers have developed a Oswego PorchFest Concert Series called "Paying It Forward" which will feature some of the talent who performed at Oswego PorchFest 2015. The "Oswego PorchFest Concert Series" (2 or 3 a year) will provide "paid" gigs for the performers and additional exposure in a larger venue (The American Foundry) with the proceeds going to The Oswego Renaissance Oswego PorchFest 2016 via The Oswego Renaissance Association. The Concert Series will also keep the idea of Oswego's PorchFest in the public eye and awareness.
Oswego's 1st PorchFest 2015, this past September 21, 2015, saw an estimated 800 people turn out for 24 performances on 15 different host porches in Oswego's Historic Franklin Park and Montcalm Park Neighborhoods. Community responses were overwhelmingly positive.
"Oswego PorchFest" was brought to life by local, life-long resident Gerri Millar and through an "Oswego Renaissance Associaiton Pride Grant" which provided seed money to underwrite the initial costs. The Concert Series should provide additional funds that can be used to continue this new "Oswego PorchFest" tradition and provide a few basic upgrades.
Steven Phillips, a member of the original Oswego PorchFest Committee, also Oswego City Resident and a Community Activists will take the lead on the Concert Series. "We are thrilled to provide a "paid" gig in a great venue that will promote the performers, Oswego PorchFest 2016 and The Oswego Renaissance Association while providing additional funds to underwrite future Oswego PorchFests Activities." 2 of the PorchFest 2015 Crowd Favorites, The Shambles and Ronda Helene, will return for the 1st PorchFest Concert on Nov 21, 7PM at the American Foundry.
What do you get when you mix an electrician, a railroad supervisor, a manager, a social worker, a lawyer and a linguistic/music student? If it sounds like a shambles, it is! The Shambles is a 6 piece band from Binghamton, playing celtic and American folk rock music in their own unique and high energy way. This 6 piece band featuring multiple guitars, tin whistle, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, keyboard, melodica, harmonica, percussion and yes bagpipes is a favorite in the Southern Tier of NY and the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania. Think Dropkick Murphy meets Johnny Cash meets Floggin Molley meets the Beatles meets Christina Aguilera. It's hard to explain but so much fun to listen and dance to. The Shambles began with a few soccer dads about 15 years ago but the current band has really honed its style and stage presence over the last 3 years. Their favorite comment, often heard, is "You guys don't just play great music, you really put on a show". Drummer Mark Gorgos, whose Mom grew up in Oswego and met his Dad there while a student at the College back in the 30s said: "We had so much fun at Porchfest this year and we are excited to be asked back. We get a lot of energy from our crowds and we try to serve it right back. I can't wait to hear Tom's bagpipes echoing again across the Lake, yes even from indoors."

Recently returned from a National Patsy Cline Completion in Westchester, Va where she was ranked in the top 5; Ronda Helene has a clear, strong, seasoned voice along with excellent delivery.
Born in Upstate New York she has been singing professionally for the past 9 years after studying music and voice in college. A divorced Mother of 3, a Grandmother and most recently a cancer survivor, Ronda's personal experiences adds depth and emotion to her already seasoned style and delivery.
Ronda appeared at Oswego's Porchfest 2015 on September 21 and quickly became a crowd favorite as she performed a wide range of songs from the Queens of Country Music, Rockabilly, and Soft Rock.
For this 1st PorchFest Concert she will present a tribute to her favorite Queens of Country Music, including; the immortal Miss Patsy Cline and the "Stand By Your Man" Woman, Tammy Wynette along with others.
The Oswego PorchFest 1st Concert will take place Saturday Nov. 21, 7PM at the American Foundry located at 246 W Seneca St. in Oswego, NY 13126.
