Drawing as a Gateway to Artistry, Exploration, and Enrichment
Each session 9 a.m.-noon.
Each session sold separately.
Artist, architectural illustrator and author Richard E. Scott will conduct six classes, drawing the art, architecture, and gardens of the Huntington. These classes are perfect for artists, architects, designers, urban sketchers, students, hobbyists, and beginners. Students will improve drawing skills, develop better visual perception, and enrich their visual experience. Students may choose to enroll in individual classes, or attend all six.
Space is limited.
A supply list will be sent upon registration.
*Please note there is not a class on November 26 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
November 5--How to Draw with Greater Accuracy The first session begins with simple techniques for drawing any subject with greater accuracy. Students apply the lessons to draw artworks in art galleries.
November 12--Drawings that Come to Life Creating the illusion of three-dimensional form in drawing is explored, along with calligraphic lines. Students apply the lessons to draw various parts of the gardens.
November 19--Depth and Space The Fundamentals of Perspective Creating the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional sheet of paper is demonstrated and discussed. Students apply the lessons to draw the architecture of the Huntington.
December 3--Intermediate Perspective Subjects of greater complexity (two-point perspective) are explored, demonstrated, and drawn. Students apply the lessons to draw the architecture of the Huntington.
December 10--Advanced Perspective Subjects of even greater complexity (three-point perspective and curved shapes) are explored, demonstrated, and drawn. Students apply the lessons to draw the architecture of the Huntington.
December 17--Finding Your Own Voice In the final session, students learn how to interact with a subject and uncover those elements that have greatest personal meaning. Students apply this thinking process to draw the gardens and architecture of the Huntington.
