Community-2-Classroom MCLI Teacher Fellowship Appreciation Event
Project Background:
Since 1989 the Moore County Chamber of Commerce has conducted the Moore County Leadership Institute (MCLI) with the mission of developing effective leaders. The goal of the program is to develop a broader base of informed, committed, and qualified individuals capable of providing dynamic leadership for Moore County. The Leadership Institute is a yearlong program that begins in January of each year and concludes in December with an evening graduation ceremony.
Teachers are clearly leaders in any community and have a direct impact on their students and their students' families on a daily basis. The demands and experience of teaching combined with the skills and knowledge required make great teachers great leaders. The MCLI program will provide teachers with an opportunity to gain knowledge of the local community and interact with other community leaders. This interaction will empower both the teachers and the community leaders thereby strengthening their relationship through effective communication leading to better results for our students and the community at large.
Project Goals:
The MCLI Class of 2015 would like to provide a fellowship for one teacher to attend the Moore County Leadership Institute for one year at no expense to the participating teacher. It is the hope of the 2015 class to make this a sustainable fellowship that can provide teachers with the opportunity to add to their leadership skills and abilities.
The Community-2-Classroom MCLI Fellowship would pay the full tuition for a teacher to attend MCLI in addition to the cost of any substitute teachers or other expenses associated with the teacher's absence. It has been determined through discussions with Moore County Schools that the cost to provide the fellowship for one year will be approximately $2,000. All proceeds of the fellowship campaign will be donated to the Public Education Foundation with whom the MCLI Class of 2015 is working with to raise funds to support the Moore County Teacher of Year's participation in the 2016 MCLI Program. Any surplus funds raised through this fellowship campaign will be donated to the Public Education Foundation. The Public Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3), a charitable organization, therefore all donations are tax-deductible.
To thank those who choose to donate to the Community-2-Classroom MCLI Fellowship, an appreciation event will be held on Wednesday October 14, 2015 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at the Carolinas Golf Association Carolinas Golf House located at 140 Ridge Road, Southern Pines, NC 28387 (across the street from the Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club).
