Columbine: Tragedy to Triumph - An evening with Patrick Ireland, Columbine's "Boy in the Window"
The Mental Health Association in Forsyth County's annual fundraising event, will take place on Friday, October 23 at Wake Forest Biotech Place, in the Wake Forest Innovation Quarter in downtown Winston-Salem, North Carolina.  The program will begin at 7:00 pm.

The October 23 event will feature Patrick Ireland, known as the "boy in the window" from the shooting rampage that took place at Columbine High School in Colorado on April 20, 1999.  During that horrific event that took 13 lives and wounded 23 others, Ireland was shot twice in the head and once in the foot.  As this day unfolded on television across the globe, Ireland was finally pulled to safety through a shattered window of the school's library by SWAT team members on the scene.

After extensive in-patient and out-patient care in Colorado, Ireland returned to school seven months after the shooting to graduate on time as Valedictorian of his class and went on to graduate magna cum laude from Colorado State University.  His incredible story is one of strength, courage and overcoming obstacles.

"We are delighted that Patrick will join us this year for such a special evening," said Andy Hagler, executive director of Mental Health Association in Forsyth County.  "Mental Health issues can come in so many various forms, and dealing with and overcoming a tragic situation like that fateful day at Columbine is an incredibly arduous process that takes time, patience and perseverance.  Patrick's story is an inspiring story of doing just that."

Tickets for this event are available for $50 and include free parking, hors d'oeuvres, beer and wine.
