Continuing our special Thursday sessions, JUICE! jumps into fall trails blazing as we host another incredible lineup of internationally-known producers representing the deep, soulful sounds of drum and bass. October 29th, we are extremely honored to welcome BLADERUNNER (UK: Dread Recordings / V Recordings / Spearhead / Formation / progRam); FURNEY (UK: Soul Deep / C.I.A. / Liquid V / 31 Records / Good Looking / LDmusic / Sheer Velocity / Telluric / Fabric London); and to top it all off, DAVE OWEN (IND: Creative Source | Peer Pressure | Influence) will be starting the night! Holy moly! Top notch local support from resident REVIVAL (aka 'Spastik'PDX) ensures a bumpin' funky entry into the night.

BLADERUNNER

Devan Gray, AKA Bladerunner, based in the East of England, is one of the most highly respected Drum & Bass artists today. His talents were spotted back in 2004 by the legendary Ray Keith, he was signed to Dread Recordings and remixed jungle classics 'Renegade Terrorist', 'The Chopper' and 'Dark Soldier'. His debut album Analog Bass was released in 2009 which lead to further remix duties on tracks such as 'The Lighter' for DJ SS on Formation Records and 'Sound Control' by Randall and Andy C. Since then this DJ/Producer has more than paid back Ray for his support with numerous modern day anthems, the latest being 'Feel for You' and 'Spartan Law' which appeared on Andy C's hugely popular mix CD 'Nightlife 5'.
Bladerunner's new school, forward thinking take on the classic jungle sound has won him legions of fans from heads to producers alike with tracks such as 'Love is Gone' on Philly Blunt, Feel For You and his rework of Marvellous Cain's 'The Hitman'
Bladerunner has been tearing up dance floors globally for over twelve years now and he showcases many of his original compositions and exclusive remixes with consistently heavy beats and outstanding basslines. As well as regular airplay on BBC Radio 1, and appearances on 1Xtra and D&B Arena TV, Bladerunner has also been featured in ATM Magazine with cover mix CD. Hits such as 'Snake Fist' on Fabio's Creative Source and 'Back to the Jungle' on Critical Records topped the BBC Radio 1 Drum & Bass charts and still tear dancefloors apart the world over while more recently Bladerunner has signed 'Late Night Caller b/w 'Fusion' for his debut release on Ram Records sister label Program. Support for Bladerunner tracks comes from all the A-list DJ's on the scene including Andy C, Friction, Ray Keith, Fabio, Bailey, Bryan G, Randall and more.
A first time performance in Portland, we expect to be a DnB *puddle* by the time he's done with us!

FURNEY
(UK) Soul Deep / C.I.A. / Liquid V / 31 Records / Good Looking / LDmusic / Sheer Velocity / Telluric / Fabric London
Furney is James Fearnside, born in Bradford, UK and based in based in Aylesbury, (outside of London, UK). He was first introduced to dance music by listening to mixtapes from early acid and hardcore musicians, kindly supplied by his older sister, who was a big influence early on. As these DJs moved into drum & bass, James tracked their music and the genre.
"I started DJing because (my sister) used to make me spend money on all these records, I didn't have a clue what I was buying but she used to point all the tunes out to me. I was always fascinated by home-produced music too and an Atari and an Akai were the next things to get if you already had Technics and wanted to be taken seriously."
Furney's sound could be described not so much in terms of genre, but in terms of mood. He's creating mystical, dreamy vibes that "make you think about things or feel a certain way; puts you in a different place, rather than something that's easy to dance to on drugs. Music with a bit of stickability, substance."
James' early releases came out on labels like Big Bud's Sound Trax and Super8sound imprints as well as Advanced Recordings and Deep Kut run by Total Science. He gained substantial exposure through LTJ Bukem, who was the first person to receive and share his tracks with other artists.
After some well received releases hit the streets, Furney joined forces with Good Looking records and gained exposure quickly. Furney's debut release for a revitalised Good Looking was 'Drum Tools' in collaboration with MC Conrad which appeared on the other side of LTJ Bukem's first track in three years, 'Switch'. Next up was 'Pipez' coupled with 'Leap of Faith' by Utah Jazz, both tracks were featured on the 'Bukem in Session ' DVD recorded live at Exit festival in Serbia.
Pipez is a re-rub of and old Jack Smooth track from 1994. Furney loved the elements so much, he re-worled them to today's tempos just for fun. Bukem loved it so much he played it in every set for a year and then got the backing from Jack Smooth to release it. Then followed 'Distance', coupled with Soulmatic's 'Self Belief.' with it's crisp production and driving bassline, 'Distance,' a collab with Herrick, (with Rhodes piano grooves and funky house vocals), is a perfect example of why Furney's productions have become such a big hit on the dancefloor.
With this trip marking his first visit to the Pacific Northwest, Portland is going to be blown away when we are engulfed by FURNEY's big and rolling sounds. Get ready!

DAVE OWEN
(Indianapolis, IND) V Recordings / Good Looking / Chronic / Liquid V / Fokuz
Coming straight out of the nation's Heartland with a wealth of knowledge and love for Soul and HipHop, DAVE OWEN's creations embody the pure essence of the word 'funk.'
With more support and upcoming co-laborations than can be mentioned, Dave Owen is quickly becoming one of the brightest stars in drum-n-bass; just go ask LTJ Bukem, Grooverider, Fabio or Bailey, whom all drop Dave's tunes on the regular. The young producer's style blends hip-hop and old soul samples w/ crisp drums to create a sound that is truly unique. Between a number of smaller releases, his 12 on Influence and acclaimed 'Yo Girl' on Creative Source, Dave has had a great response in the DnB charts and top 10s. Watch for much more to come from this musical savant.
With regular airplay on FABIO's RADIO 1 show and support from a growing list of the scene's heavyweights from his recent half-world tour, DAVE is on track to make even larger strides as we head into the future.

REVIVAL

Revival is a Drum & Bass producer from Boise, Idaho who relocated to Portland in 2012. His status as a DJ is backed by twelve years of experience in music production and mixing; and for those who have seen him play for JUICE! in the past as 'Spastik', you know you're in for a treat of funky intelligent DnB that has you instantly grooving.
With a keen understanding and affinity for the genre, Revival has produced many DnB tracks and mixes, which have been aired on local college radio and online DnB stations. Featured on Chicago heavy hitter STUNNA's "GreenRoom DnB" show (bassdrive.com); Atlantic Connection's "The Future Soul Show;" and DBase's "Submission Mixes;" Revival's upbeat and light 'old school jazz' flavor is gaining strong exposure. As a resident to JUICE! the last 3 years, his sexy, retro vibe perfectly encompasses the rich soulful sounds we host. Keep a close watch on this fresh, ultra-talented producer!
