Becoming an Ally for Latino Families
WSU Extension is offering a two-part training. In Part 1 participants will learn tools, skills and strategies to work with Latino communities and in Part 2 the focus will be on becoming an ally of Latino families. You are welcome to register to just one of them, however for the most benefit you are encouraged to take both. At the end of both parts, you will Be aware of the diversity and various sub-cultures and languages that make up the Latino/a population Recognize the demographic makeup of Latinos/as including children and youth Understand the complexity of immigration issues, including living in mixed status families and how it relates to extension work Understand the similarities and differences of Latino cultural values to the main stream culture Identify opportunities, strategies and practices to work with Latino families Design culturally appropriate programs with Latinos Be aware of and able to identify points of privilege and inequity that Latino families encounter Clock hours are pending approval of an application.
