Orchestra Amadeus presents: Wonder Women! A benefit for human trafficking victims.
Human trafficking is a major trouble of our time, and in many ways is the modern form of slavery. Trafficking victims come from all walks of life: men and women, young and old, from every ethnic and cultural background. Yet it is a problem that too often goes unnoticed. This concert will celebrate the strength of those who fight this scourge, and to assist those in need of help. Proceeds will go to Covenant House, a New York City non-profit organization.
The program opens with Beethoven's magnificent 'Leonore Overture (No. 3).' Actually the second of four overtures composed for the opera 'Fidelio,' it is a powerful work which captures the drama and spirit of the opera, including its main themes: The search for justice and the power of love. Contralto AnnaMaria Cardinalli joins the orchestra to sing Edward Elgar's 'Sea Pictures.' Ms. Cardinalli is an accomplished artist and veteran of the concert hall but also a veteran of the intelligence community. Her work has been extremely influential in helping bring to light problems of human trafficking. Elgar's 'Sea Pictures' are moving and poignant--a reminder of the power of love and faith in the darkest times. The second half of the program will feature the most enduring and timeless work by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. 'Scheherazade' is an exciting orchestral suite, a portrait of the legendary Princess and her magical telling of the 1,001 nights.
Come hear great musicians play this incredible music and support a wonderful organization as we help support the victims of human trafficking.
