ABOUT KARI MARGOLIS
Kari Margolis is a playwright, director, master teacher, performer, keynote speaker, and published author. She is co-founder of the international touring MB ADAPTORS Company, established in New York City in 1984. She has conceived and directed seventeen critically acclaimed productions that have toured nationally and internationally in South America, Europe and Asia. Her original work also includes site-specific performances for such places as the Brooklyn Museum, the Minnesota Science Museum, the Roebling Bridge NY, and the beach at Coney Island, NY.

Kari has been a Master Teacher at the Kennedy Center for the American College Theatre Festival for fifteen years. She served on the Theatre Faculty of the University of Minnesota/Twin Cities and played an integral role in reshaping the Acting Program to focus on the actor as creator.

Kari has run the Margolis Method Center Int'l since 1984, in New York City, Minneapolis and now in Highland Lake NY where she reaches an international student body of over fifty artists per season. A Margolis Method Center is now in development in Barcelona, Spain.

Kari conducts master classes, extended residencies and lecture demonstrations throughout the United States and internationally. Along with her own work, Kari has created original theatre productions for several University Theatre Programs and works as a freelance director.

Kari's theatre work and research have been recognized with: Six National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, a Pew/TCG National Artist Fellowship, a Creative Capital National Artist Fellowship, a NY "Bessie" Performance Award, multiple McKnight Foundation Fellowships, a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Bush Foundation Fellowship, and a Brooklyn Arts Council Outstanding Achievement in the Arts Award among several other prestigious awards and fellowships.

ABOUT MARGOLIS METHOD
Margolis Method has been developed over the last thirty years by Kari Margolis and has achieved international recognition as a methodology for empowering theatre artists to own their craft. Margolis Method takes all the mystery out of acting by offering tangible, practicable exercises that allow the actor to build and hone their skills like a true craftsperson.

Margolis Method organically synthesizes the vital connections between muscular and vocal expression and merges the skill sets of acting, directing and playwriting to build what we call the "Actor Warrior."

Margolis Method is not an aesthetic but a comprehensive series of highly theatrical exercises based on the universal principles of physics and communication. Training in the Method strengthens theatre artists in any theatrical style or aesthetic, ranging from abstract experimental to linear text-based plays. Students will be able to take with them practicable exercises and deep insights into new ways of looking at theatre.

Founder Kari Margolis drew early research inspiration from the philosophies and work of such artists as Etienne Decroux, Jerzy Grotowski and Bertolt Brecht. The synthesis of such philosophies gave her the foundation for what she considers true theatre artistry -- the ability to tap into and shape one's personal visceral impulses in a way that transforms them into universal ideas that can reach the most diverse of audiences.
